Nahir Carranza, MA
Nahir is a healthcare professional with a passion for serving others and providing high-quality, compassionate medical care.
She earned bachelor’s degrees in psychology and Pre-PA studies. Nahir began her clinical career as a Certified Medical Assistant, working in both pediatrics and dermatology.
For ten years, Nahir worked with Food for the Hungry, an international nonprofit organization serving communities around the world, and has been part of medical missions for many years.
After several years of medical school, Nahir realized that becoming a Physician Assistant was the path that best aligned with her passion for patient care. She is planning on starting PA school next fall.
Nahir has called Tennessee home for the past year after moving from Maine. She lives with her husband and their two daughters, a two-year-old and a newborn. Outside of work, she enjoys traveling, spending time with her family, and learning to embrace this new rhythm of life as a family of four.
How Nahir approaches health in real life
A practical look at training, food, recovery, and the tools used to stay consistent.
01 On a good week, what is your health activity strategy?
I am learning to find a new routine with a newborn and a toddler at home. I will say that I haven’t gone back to a specific exercise routine yet, but we have included family walks in our daily schedule. It helps both the girls and me!
I’m excited to start pushing my body a little more again and get back into Pilates and strength training.
02 On a good week, what do you eat?
I am trying to fit in more protein and be more mindful of what I eat. Pregnancy takes a toll on the body, so I am working on incorporating more healthy fats and protein into my diet.
We love avocados at home, so I’m constantly adding them to breakfast with eggs or incorporating them into lunch and dinner. I’ve also found that having protein shakes or adding protein to my coffee helps me make better choices when I’m heading out the door.
03 Are you a good sleeper? What helps you get good sleep?
Well, having a newborn at home doesn’t exactly make for the best sleep schedule! But now that she is transitioning to longer stretches of sleep, it has helped me get about five hours of uninterrupted sleep.
I try to wind down with a good shower before going to bed.
04 What health or nutrition apps do you use?
Not currently. In the past, I’ve enjoyed using food tracking apps — I like using them to focus more on how much fat and protein I still need to get in for the day.
05 What health devices do you use?
Apple Watch.
